Laura is one of the most motivated kids in the morning. Even though she is not the one going to school, she gets ready as quickly as she can. In a flash, her feet are correctly in her boots, jacket is on, and hands are snug and warm inside her pockets. She stands pateintly waiting at the front door as her siblings gather their items necessary for the school day ahead. As soon as the first one is finally ready, she is out the door with them and eagerly climbs into the truck, snapping on her seatbelt (or at least trying REALLY hard to).
Today, one week before her birthday, her eagerness left her face down on the cement porch when her foot became trapped inside the house as the door was closing behind her. Poor girl! Her nose was scraped and oozing from the immediate bump on her nasal bridge to the tip on the end of her nose. Blood was dripping from her nostril at a steady rate, leaving a polka dot trail of red from the front door, which culminated in a little red pool by the kitchen sink. 10 minutes of ice and a lot of TLC helped prepare her for attempt #2 out the door. Whew! Success! Her very understanding and compassionate siblings were all late for school today, but no one seemed to mind. It's funny how a little bit of blood can totally freak out a bunch of kids...it makes them quite alert and compliant. I should have taken pictures before I washed all the blood off the floors and the smears off the walls....they could have proved helpful in the future on bad behavior days!
