Happy Birthday to Thomas!!!!
My sweet little guy is still just as sweet as he was on the day he was born. Happy, kind, calm, smart, lover of Batman, Spiderman, Cars, and Star Wars, outdoors playing, good to the core, wonderful.......that's my Thomas! Thomas was kind of excited about his birthday today and kind of not. All the presents? Yes, he enjoyed those immensely. Being the center of attention all day? No, he definitely did not enjoy that. At all. In fact, this is what we saw most of today.........
....his back side as he ran from anyone who wanted to talk to him on this special day.
With the cousins in town, a combined birthday party was planned for Thomas, Abi, and Lucas. It was so nice that Thomas got to share his birthday. Though quite overwhelming for him to be surrounded by so many people, I think it helped to take some of the pressure off of people only focusing on him.
We were to go skating at the arena in Roseville, but unbeknownst to any of us, the ice time had been sold to a private hockey group. Thank goodness we had just gone skating the other day! Being so beautiful outside, we headed to the great park by my parents' house instead. The kids had so much fun running around, that everyone forgot about ice skating.
Grandma and Grandpa had pizza and lots of other good stuff for our birthday luncheon. Good food, but Thomas was too nervous to eat much of anything. Playing outside and breaking open the CARS pinata helped to turn him around. He shared a cake with cousin Luki. Apparently Thomas blew most of the candles out on his own during the first round, so Luki gave him specific instructions to follow the second time around. Poor Thomas was a bit mortified by the admonishment. Poor little guy. Some bites of cake and some really nice presents cheered him up once again.
Thomas fell asleep on the way home, exhausted by his day.....he had been riding on an emotional roller coaster all day long with no break! As a fellow introvert, I can empathize with him completely. Back at home, we could barely get him awake enough to see the cool new present we had gotten him. With much coaxing, he finally gave it a gander. I think he is going to really like this tomorrow! While moving the cars into the driveway, Bethany summed up how I think we were all feeling after such a heavy duty, but fun and busy Spring Break:
Yes, it has been an exhausting week.....but also tons of fun. Just like a real vacation typically is!
