Grandmas' Birthdays

Every year, the first week of September is quite special/busy for our family. Not only is it brimming with cramming in last-minute summer activities, and buzzing with back-to-school excitement, and often a bonus trip up to Duluth over the holiday weekend, but it is also birthday week for BOTH Grandmas!! And really, is there anything better than a good Grandma to love you to pieces and give you special "I love you" hugs and treats? I think not. And my kids are so very lucky to have two such doting Grandmas in their corners. (Don't get me wrong, Grandpas are great too, as are Uncles and Aunts, cousins, friends, etc....but today, the Grandmas get to shine!)
Grandma ?'s birthday always comes around first, on the 2nd of September, and usually takes us by surprise. But this year, I had her gift ready for months, and we marked the date in big letters on the calendar so that we would most certainly be able to visit her and celebrate her birthday with her, even in the middle of such a busy week. That morning, we did our darnedest to get ready as quickly as possible, and we drove down to Mankato to hang out at the mall, ride the carousal,
.......and treat her to a birthday lunch before she headed off to work for the afternoon (and we headed back home to get ready for "Open House" at school that afternoon).
Though the time was short, we were all so happy to get to spend a portion of the day with our special Grandma ?. With all the love she shares with us, we hope she could feel some of it right back at her!

Grandma C's birthday is next, on the 7th day of September, usually getting lost in back to school activities. But this year, it landed on Labor Day, making it the perfect time to get together for a BBQ....even on our way back home from Duluth! And her gift this year? Something I know for certain she is going to use...:o)

We played with the twin cousins, ate good food, and spent some nice time together just hanging out. Laura wants to be sure I remember to talk about the yummy cake...it was chocolate(of course!). OH!!! And we got to converse with our Miami cousins via online Skype! Way cool!!

Though we are fortunate to see Grandma C fairly often, it was so nice to have a day where she got to be special for once....because for heavens sake, she sure spends a lot of time making the rest of us feel so special!

So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GRANDMAS!!! We love you both so VERY MUCH!!!
