There She Goes

Little Laura. When she was miraculously born 5-1/2 years ago, so itty bitty, against all odds, fighting for her little tiny life, sending her to Kindergarten was farthest from my mind. Way back then, I was thankful for every minute, no, every MOMENT I had with her. Those moments continued to come and go, and slowly changed to minutes, hours, then days. We were able to breathe a bit easier as those days turned into weeks, then months, and now, just as the other kids, time is measured in passing years. My, have those years gone by quickly. And while I am yet not ready to give her up and watch her go to school, she is very ready. So, to school, I must let her go.
She started off by getting to choose her favorite lunch: Chips and Cheese.
She was dressed up in a cute summer outfit, and had her Tinkerbell backpack packed and set.
She got a deluxe ride to the bus stop in the ever trusty wagon.
She waited patiently for her bus to come, with Thomas by her side(by the way, he has been wearing his own backpack around everywhere we have gone this week).
When it did arrive, she promptly bounced up the steps, holding onto the handrail as she had been taught during bus safety training at Open House last week.
She sat in the front seat and waved to us out the window. That was it.
And just like that....she was gone.
But she came back! They all did! Big sister, Melissa, made sure that Laura was safe getting off the bus.

Laura had a great first day of school, learned new things, and made two friends. And is already looking forward to tomorrow!

I now understand the anguish of sending a kindergardener off to school for the first time. It's like a little piece of your heart leave with them. I'm right there with you my friend.
